How Often Should You Practice For A Music Lesson

It’s one of the oldest questions in music education — and the answer can vary because every student is different. Sometimes your teacher will recommend practicing a set amount of time each day. Other times, they may ask you to play through a specific section of music a certain number of times. A fun variation some teachers use is practicing for the number of minutes equal to your age.

No matter the method, the most important key to success is consistency. Your teacher would much rather you practice 15 minutes a day than cram an hour and a half into one session each week. Regular, steady practice always leads to better progress — and that’s a universal truth for every music student.
