    About Christopher Gilbert

Christopher Gilbert is a versatile composer, musician, and educator currently pursuing a degree in songwriting at the University of Colorado Denver. Chris began teaching guitar in 2018, inspired by a passion for music cultivated through playing in various bands and genres. Whether performing in experimental noise rock ensembles or small jazz combos, Chris brings enthusiasm and creativity to every musical project.

After high school, Chris furthered their studies at SUNY Potsdam’s Crane School of Music, focusing on classical double bass, music education, and composition. Under the guidance of esteemed instructors such as Dr. Timothy R. Sullivan, Dr. Jerod P. Sommerfeldt, and Dr. Douglass J. McKinney, Chris gained a comprehensive education in audio engineering, composition, and ensemble direction. In addition to academic pursuits, Chris has been an active performer, notably with the band The Red Rooks, and has released two albums—one with The Apes and another with The 165.

Chris’s teaching philosophy centers on building meaningful connections between diverse musical experiences, fostering not just technical skill but also a deep love for music. Their approach emphasizes that music education is about more than mastering an instrument; it's about cultivating an enduring passion for music and channeling that energy into creative expression.
