Chris Banks is a proud Atlanta native and lifelong musician with a heart for teaching and a love for sharing music. His journey began back in middle school with the alto saxophone, where he quickly stood out as first chair in his school band. But it was at age thirteen, when he picked up his first guitar, that he truly found his voice.
With a deep passion for music, Chris went on to study under some of the best, including Atlanta guitar legend Peter Vogl and the renowned Jimmy Herring of Widespread Panic. He later graduated with honors from the Atlanta Institute of Music, where he was fortunate to learn from celebrated musicians like Bill Hart and Shane Theriot.
Chris has been performing professionally since 1997, entertaining audiences across the U.S. and beyond with his band Rhythm Nation. As the band’s guitarist and musical director, he's played thousands of shows and brings that same energy and experience into every lesson he teaches. He also spent five years playing guitar on the worship team at Stonecreek Church in Alpharetta, further deepening his understanding of music as a way to connect and inspire.
With over a decade of teaching experience, Chris brings warmth, patience, and enthusiasm to each lesson. He’s worked with students of all ages and skill levels, teaching privately, in music stores, and in schools. His teaching philosophy is centered around encouragement, creativity, and connection. Chris believes in helping students not only learn how to play, but also how to enjoy the journey of learning—building confidence, independence, and a lifelong love of music.
For Chris, every student is unique, and he tailors his approach to help each one thrive. He makes lessons fun, engaging, and something kids look forward to each week. Whether your child is picking up an instrument for the first time or looking to take their skills to the next level, Chris is committed to supporting their growth with kindness, experience, and expert guidance.
When he’s not teaching or performing, Chris enjoys spending time with his family, attending concerts, and exploring new hobbies—most recently, furniture restoration and even a bit of day trading!
