Sean's musical journey started at a young age. His childhood was filled with music, accompanied by the singing of his father and older brother. Beginning with lessons at age five, he learned the fundamentals of music through the piano and drums. In time he connected with his main means of musical expression through the guitar. Years of learning the technical skills of sight reading, practice habits, and performance, and studying the musical building blocks of rhythm, melody, and harmony have matured to a deep understanding of key concepts to help others unlock their musical potential.
Sean’s own experience with music is one of slow growth and progress. Learning the technical skills that allow for music expression takes time, perseverance, and patience. By relating in a relaxed and personable way, Sean helps his students measure their progress without comparing or expecting too much. Whether playing a two-song note or getting the rhythm of a swing note just right, anyone can learn step-by-step the language of music.
With his students, Sean seeks to stay connected to the universal language of music and the healing potential of sound, both as a musician or as a listener. He loves to connect with others about their experiences with song and sound and to share the stories and histories of music’s past.
Sean has worked with children and young people from different backgrounds and cultures and in a wide variety of education settings. This experience helps him connect to his students on a personal level, allowing the relationship to form the basis of the lessons and instruction. Sean’s belief is that musical expression is as natural as walking and talking. Just like a child learning these skills they will soon master, he takes joy in helping others work to realize their own musical gifts.
